Partners: Manchester International Festival
The partnership that The University of Manchester shares with Manchester International Festival has proven extremely fruitful for both parties. The University is a leading source of festival volunteers, placement students and graduate employees to the city’s biennial international arts celebration. This, in turn, creates amazing opportunities for our students.
In spring 2019, Creative Manchester facilitated 10 unique placement opportunities for Drama and Electronic Engineering students at The University. These placements involved working with German theatre company Rimini Protokoll on their visionary Utopolis Manchester, which sent festival-goers on a journey across the city, taking in intricate tapestries of sound and voices at a variety of secret venues.
Working alongside established artists and field-leading technicians, our students helped build the audio system for the event, contributed to voiceovers and even wrote the music that accompanied festival-goers on their journey. The film below, produced by Creative Manchester, documents the students’ experiences and showcases the special partnership that The University and MIF share.
