Keynote lecture: Innovation, Growth and the Creative Industries
Sir Peter was knighted in 2012 for services to broadcasting and is currently non-executive Chairman of ITV. He was appointed as The University of Manchester's Honorary Professor of Creative Industries in 2020. Described as 'the most influential man in British broadcasting', he was commissioned by the Government to conduct an independent review into the UK’s Creative Industries for their Industrial Strategy in 2017. He now sits as a non-executive on the board of UK Research & Innovation and is Chair of the Creative Industries Council.
In July 2022, Creative Manchester hosted ‘A Framework for Creative and Cultural Collaborations,’ an online workshop in partnership with Aspect (a SHAPE platform for Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Transformation) and an excellent opportunity for academics and professionals to hear about the latest research centred on Creative and Cultural Industries and Higher Education Institutions working in collaborative partnerships.
Attendees were also able to hear from other project partners, including:

- Rachel Kenyon – Business Engagement Manager, Business Engagement and Knowledge Exchange, The University of Manchester
- Kostas Kakavelakis – Creative Cardiff
- Suzie Leighton, Co-Founder and Director of the National Centre for Academic and Cultural Exchange (NCACE), concluded the workshop with an oversight of the NCACE’s key areas of work and its crucial findings, such as the value that collaborative activities bring to the arts
An event to mark the return of the Granada TV Archive to Manchester as part of the British Pop Archive at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library.
This roundtable discussion, ‘Devolved Vision: Granada TV and the Future of British TV’, asked: Will be ever see another Granada TV? What is the future for British TV?
Part of the ESRC Festival 2021, this event presented findings from a Creative Industries Deep Dive Project, a collaboration between The University of Manchester and The University of York, funded by Aspect. It explored best practice business engagement in Creative Industries with arts, humanities and social sciences research in Yorkshire/Humber and Greater Manchester regions.
Novel Voices features online events showcasing exceptional debut authors in conversation with Ellah P. Wakatama (Editor-at-Large at Canongate Books and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for New Writing) about their craft and journey towards publishing their first, full body of work. The series is presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Blackwell’s Bookshop.
